Benoît Guérin

Self-taught, Benoît Guérin adopts a resolutely abstract approach, where colors and materials meet in an instinctive and spontaneous impulse. His creative process, marked by urgency, alternates between construction, erasure, and restarting.

"The subject of my paintings often appears in spite of myself, I let myself be drawn into the material."

Working primarily in acrylic, he sometimes combines inks and walnut stains, mixing the colors directly on the canvas. Painting on the floor, he physically immerses himself in the creation, where each gesture—scraping, crushing, throwing—gives birth to vibrant and textured works.

Black, omnipresent in his compositions, sculpts light and reveals striking contrasts. Inspired by figures such as Soulages, Marfaing, and De Staël, Benoît explores a captivating chiaroscuro, where matter and emotion come together.

Rooted in abstraction, his landscapes also offer a transformed vision of reality. Colors combine or clash to create new sensations.

Based in Vouillé, in Deux-Sèvres, he draws on the singular and irrational pleasure of painting "Let yourself be carried away by your own feelings, as I let myself be guided by the material." Each canvas becomes a space of freedom, open to personal interpretations.

Benoît has exhibited at numerous exhibitions and has received several awards.

His art, constantly evolving, reflects a quest for balance between instinct and reflection, always driven by the desire to renew himself.
