Media: Oil on Canvas |  Tell It All Brother 2020 AllUSHeroesWhen original pastel was uploaded to this Page on 5.24.20, in my head I kept hearing a 70’s pop ballad with “Brother” sung repeatedly. On 5.26.20, I found 1970’s Tell It All Brother lyrics, which sent a chill up my spine as George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis the day before on 5.25.20. Along with that event, these lyrics ring out strongly, as does subject's slight resemblance to George Floyd, as they must. |

 A Mask Break Frontline Sheroic 20sWork recognizes the widespread, invaluable contribution of women during Covid, as 70% of U.S. health care workers are women. Into focus is the work environment of hospitals & medical offices, designed to get work done & keep clean easily, not calm one’s nerves. DRAWING with RED CHALK
On the Road to Painting
I use toned paper to draw on as its tonality is like that of an ‘underpainting’ -- a canvas lightly washed with color. To draw subjects on it prior to painting, I use Red Conte Crayons as they don’t muddy applied paints (in contrast to charcoal & graphite pencil). Consistent use of Contes for drawing on paper maintains swift, facile stroke capability transferable to canvas whenever needed.
The less drawing the better for painting. Thus in the portraits/ figures drawn in Red Chalk and presented here,
one will sense like economy & practicality.
